Okay for some reason I feel the need to say something.
Let’s get one thing straight: this wasn’t Louis defending himself. He wasn’t lashing out because he was personally offended, though lord knows Louis deserves to lash out having taken the brunt of this bullshit for months, but this wasn’t an attempt to fight someone who was attacking him. This was (as all Louis’ attempts at rationality are) his defense Eleanor, her privacy, and her relationship with Louis. He says as much in an earlier tweet to the same girl.
Because you know what? Delegitimizing someone’s relationship to people they genuinely care about (regardless of if you believe the love is real or not) is an incredibly shitty thing to do.
Since a lot of people who think they’re being pro-LGBT+ and socially progressive in the Harry/Louis fandom like to turn them into a queer narrative about breaking boundaries, how about I lay it out like this? As a queer dude, I’ve had to deal with a lot of assholes who insist that my relationships are worthless, that they aren’t legitimate relationships, that they are — for whatever reason — invalid, legally or morally or socially. And you know what? Loving someone and then having thousands of people tell you that it’s not real is a fucking awful thing to go through. Even if you know deep down that it’s valid, going through that kind of shit day after day is just so emotionally draining that it can’t help but affect your relationship with the person in question.
So, that’s what I’ve got to say. By all means, shipping is the best. Even tinhatting is great, if you respect their privacy, autonomy, and keep that shit under lock and key. But, please acknowledge that Louis gives a shit about Eleanor. Louis has shown to be pretty tenacious in the face of bullshit, but I would have done the exact same thing to protect the legitimacy of my relationship to someone else. No one deserves, no matter how justified you think you are, to be told their love is invalid.
